Cup Fever: Steven McGann, Pike Rovers, who will line out for his side this weekend in the Lawson Cup against Ballynanty Rovers
The big game of the weekend in the semi final of the Munster Logistics Lawson Cup when Pike Rovers host Ballynanty Rovers in the Pike Club at 11.00am.
With one eye on upcoming FAI and Munster Junior Cup Finals it remains to be seen how Pike will approach this game.
However a defeat to Janesboro in the League last weekend ended Pike’s hugely impressive run and Manager Mike Shiels will be keen to get his side back to winning ways prior to the aforementioned big games.
The Hoops will have their youth squad available as back up fresh from their Ger Ryan Cup final the previous night so the Manager may opt to rest a few of his big guns. Wayne Colbert and Pat Mullins left the action early last Sunday and the Hoops can ill afford to lose any of their stars.
Ballynanty Rvs have been quietly going about their business since David Dunphy took the reins. They have been training hard and have put their focus on the Lawson Cup to salvage their season. Pike will go into the tie as favourites but as any soccer observer knows, when it comes to the Lawson Cup, Balla take on a new look.
On Saturday evening the Div 3B Cup Final sees Wembley Rvs make a welcome return to local headquarters to take on Cappamore.
Following their withdrawal from the League, Wembley’s return to Division 3B has seen them top the table and on Saturday they have the chance to complete a possible double.
However they meet a Cappamore side hitting peak form at the right time so they will get nothing easy.
The Premier League continues on Sunday where champions elect Janesboro will be looking for three of the seven points they need to get over the line.
They travel to a Fairview Rangers side with little to play for but pride. It’s hard to see Janesboro being delayed on their path to success.
On Friday Pallasgreen and Newport do battle in the final of the Division 2B Cup.
With neither side in running for promotion, the cup if their chance of glory this season.
Both teams have match winners in their side which could result in an entertaining tie.
Tomorrow evening (Thursday) sees the Ger Ryan Youth Cup Final being played out in Jackman Park between Aisling Annacotty and Pike Rvs.
The top two sides in the Youth Division One League are sure to produce an exciting game with goals aplenty a real possibility.
The sides met a couple of weeks back in a crucial League tie when Pike ran out 4-1 winners.
Aisling felt on the night they did not give a good account of themselves and will be determined to correct the record this time out.
