Limerick football manager Billy Lee
THE Allianz Football League game Limerick v Wicklow, which was deemed ‘null and void’ by Croke Park officials takes place this Sunday.
On March 18 Limerick and Wicklow were due to play in round six of Division Four but it was called off due to snow in Aughrim. It was provisionally refixed for 24-hours later, Bank Holiday Monday, but again the inclement weather didn’t allow the fixture go ahead.
The following week, due to inter-county fixture congestion after a number of weather enforced postponements, GAA officials deemed a number of games ‘null and void’.
All promoted Limerick football manager Billy Lee to hit out at “disrespect” and a “lack of leadership” from Croke Park officials.
This Sunday (5pm) the counties finally meet – Limerick playing Wicklow in the official opening of new club facilities in Ballymanus, Co Wicklow.
Limerick will be without a number of players, due to club hurling championship fixtures, but the Wicklow game kick-starts their championship preparations – Limerick entertain Clare in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday May 19 in the Munster SFC.
