Charlie Hoffman - Our tip for this weekend
THE PGA tour in the US moves to the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open this week.
Some 156 of the world's top professionals will take on the Oaks Course to compete for their share of the US$6.2 million purse.
Legends such as Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Lee Trevino, Nick Price, Justin Leonard, Zach Johnson and Adam Scott have all been crowned Texas Open champion.
The Valero Texas Open, first played in 1922, is the third oldest PGA TOUR tournament. It’s only younger than the Western Open (1899) and Canadian Open (1904)
A player worth considering this week for anyone planning to have a wager on the Texas Open is American Charley Hoffman.
Since the Texas Open moved to the TPC San Antonio in 2010, Hoffman has made eight starts winning the tournament in 2016.
Hoffman also boasts two other top-3 finishes and four other showings tied 13 or betting.
Hoffman was well fancied to compete strongly for the green jacket at the recent US Masters at Augusta National. In the end, he finished a credible tied 12th.
At 18/1 with the bookies, Hoffman represents decent value for a bet.
