Paul O'Connell who has been working with the Munster Academy in recent months
The Rugby Pod, a podcast hosted by former Scottish international Jim Hamilton and England fly half Andy Goode, have linked Paul O'Connell with the forwards coaching job at the Leicester Tigers.
Jim Hamilton, the former Saracens forward, admits on the hugely popular podcast, that his 'best mate' Brett Deacon is the current Leicester forwards coach. He continues to state that Leicester have been in talks with O'Connell with a view to the former Lions captain becoming a coach at the Aviva Premiership club.
However the host does follow up his massive claim with the words "I have heard this, my sources are good, but no one from Leicester has told me this"
Andy Goode, a former Tigers stars, and co host of the pod, added his thoughts by saying, "As a romanticist, at some point O'Connell is going to be a Munster head coach. Look at O'Gara. He is off to the Crusaders. He is building his experience away from his home. Paul O'Connell and Leicester Tigers would be a match made in heaven"
In a segment each week, labelled 'Rumours' both presenters list off rumours that they have heard in the Rugby World and see if there is any truth to them. Their track record on such as been fairly spot on with Ross Moriarty's move from Gloucester to the Dragons mentioned weeks before the transfer was announced.
O'Connell has been working, on a part time basis, with the Munster Academy and there have been some negotiations between Munster and the former club captain about taking a role in Johann van Graan's backroom team.
There has never been any doubt, much like Ronan O'Gara, that Paul O'Connell would some day coach at the top level, however the destination of his first foray into full time coaching could still be up for debate.
With Leicester Tigers in town this weekend for a clash with Munster in the Champions Cup, it might be an ideal opportunity for O'Connell to cast he eyes over two potential employers.
