Blues' captain Duggan wins Limerick Sports Star Award

LIMERICK FC capatain Shane Duggan who skippered the Blues to automatic promotion back to the Premier Division of the SSE Airtricity League for next season is the Limerick Sports Star of the Month for October.

To cap a terrific season for the classy midfielder, Duggan also scooped the prestigious PFAI First Division Player of the Season at a gala function in Dublin recently.

Duggan led Limerick to automatic promotion back to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division for 2017 after the Blues ran out convincing 23 point winners of the First Division.

Twenty seven-year-old Duggan is the first Limerick FC player to win the PFAI First Division Player of the Year accolade since Rory Gaffney in 2012.

The new Limerick Sports Star awards scheme is in conjunction with the Limerick Blu Radisson Hotel and Spa and the Limerick Leader.

Each winner is presented with a personalised silver presentation dish from Keane's Jewellers at a lunch in the Limerick Radisson Blu.

While the award winners are announced on a monthly basis in the Limerick Leaders, they will be presented quarterly.

The August, September and October winners will be presented with their awards later this month,  November.

In addition, all of the monthly winners will be welcomed back to a Gala dinner in January when the Limerick Sports Star of the Year will be revealed.
