Rathkeale maintain 100% record in Desmond League Premier Division

Premier Division leaders, Rathkeale, maintained their 100 % record with a 2-0 victory at home to Newcastle West Rovers, the goals scored by Declan Nash and Pa Ahern.

There were also wins for the other two likely title challengers, Broadford United and Abbeyfeale United. Johnny Carey scored a hat-trick in Broadford’s whopping 7-0 victory away to Newcastle West. The other scorers were Paul Madigan (2), Jack Ryan and CJ Fitzpatrick.

Abbeyfeale came from behind to win 5-1 at home to Carrig Celtic, whose 5thminute opener came from Seanie King. The Fealesiders responded positively to lead 3-1 at half-time with goals from Paudie Smith, Mike Sheehan and Thomas Smith. They pulled further ahead in the second-half, with Paul Doherty getting on the scoresheet and Paudie Smith scoring his second.

The derby game between Athea United and Killeaney finished in a 1-1 draw. Kevin Murphy put Athea in front in the 20th minute and they held that lead until the second-half when Paul Brouder equalised from the penalty spot. The home team came close to regaining the lead in the last minute when they hit the crossbar.
