Munster's Costello new head coach at Nottingham

MUNSTER’S Ian Costello has been confirmed as the new head coach at English Championship side Nottingham Rugby from next season.

Costello has been an assistant coach at Munster, with responsibility for defence and kicking, for the past two seasons.

UL-Bohemian clubman Costello attended Nottingham’s last Championship match of the season on Saturday against Cornish Pirates. Nottingham finished seventh in the table.

Born in Dingle, Ian Costello grew up in Limerick and attended Ardscoil Ris. He holds an Honours Degree in Sport Science from UL.

A former centre and out-half, Costello has been working with the Munster Rugby squad since 2010. He has held roles at Munster U20, A and Academy level. A former Director of Rugby at UL-Bohs, Costello assisted Anthony Foley with the Munster U20s and Munster A's before assuming the role of Munster A Head Coach in 2011 and leading the side to a British and Irish Cup title. He has been credited for aiding the skill development of Munster's current rising stars.

Costello said: “I’m delighted to be joining Nottingham and from what I witnessed on Saturday, I think we have a fantastic opportunity next season. The club already has a really strong set-up, with a great team of people both on and off the field.

“I hope to be able to build on that, and working with the coaching and support team already in place, I’m sure we can continue to compete in what is a very tough Championship.”
