Limerick FC look to continue winning ways in Athlone

TABLE toppers Limerick FC return to action in the SSE Airtricity League First Division this Easter Saturday when facing Athlone Town at Athlone Town Stadium, 7.45pm.

Limerick thumped Cobh Ramblers 6-1 at the Markets Field on Saturday night in the First Division before scoring a 4-1 success when the clubs met again in the EA Sports Cup at St Colman’s Park on Tuesday night.

Limerick FC are now as short as 1/7 to win the First Division title with bookmakers, having began the season as 2/5 shots to finish top.

Saturday night’s opponents Athlone picked up their first point of the campaign last weekend with a 2-2 draw away to second-placed Drogheda United.

Lee-J Lynch, who turned in a Man of the Match display for the Blues at the Markets Field on Saturday night, said: “We have made a great start. Three wins from three in the league. We need to make sure we keep going and keep working away up the table.

”It is about hard work, both on and off the ball. We can’t slack off just because we have three wins. The season has only started and there is a long way to go.

”We are going to have tough games away and teams are going to want to have a go at us at home. We need to keep sure we keep doing it, keep doing the business every week.”
