LIMERICK FC maintained their excellent start to the SSE Airtricity League First Division season with a thumping 5-2 victory over Waterford United before an official attendance of 720 at the Waterford RSC.
The in-form Aaron Green helped himself to a brace of goals, while first half substitute Paul O’Conor also bagged two after Robbie Williams had opened the scoring for Martin Russell’s side.
The win which brought Limerick’s tally of fixtures to 9 for the opening two fixtures helps the promotion favourites maintain their 100% start to the season.
Limerick had the three points effectively by half-time as the visitors enjoyed a 3-0 lead at the break with goals from a Williams header on 19 minutes, Greene, after Shane Duggan’s initial effort was saved and substitute O’Conor from fully 35 yards out just before half-time.
O’Conor headed in Limerick’s fourth on 75 minutes, but Waterford hit back with two goals from James O’Brien in the 84th and 87th minutes.
Any slim hopes Waterford may have had to pulling off the great escape were ended when Greene bagged his second goal of the night in stoppage time to bring his tally to four goals in just two games.
Next up for in-form Limerick FC is a home date with Cobh Ramblers at the Markets Field on Saturday, March 19, 6.30pm.
