THE Limerick senior footballers are sweating on the fitness of key players as their relegation battle enters the home stretch.
On Saturday the John Brudair managed Limerick entertain Westmeath in the Gaelic Grounds at 7.00. Both teams have just one point at the foot of the Division 3 league table.
Limerick have relegation threatened teams Offaly and Sligo still to play in efforts to avoid a drop to the basement division for 2017.
Experienced quartet Seanie Buckley, Johnny McCarthy, Ian Ryan and Iain Corbett all limped out of last weekend’s one point loss to Kildare in Newbridge. U-21 player Michael Donovan also suffered injury in that game.
But there is some silver-lining for Limerick with Gearoid Hegarty, Stephen Kelly and Cillian Fahy all potential returns for this weekend.
Complicating matters, Limerick are due to play Munster U-21 football championship on Wednesday March 16 with at least eight players common to both panels.
