Rotherham miss out on chance to lift themselves from drop zone in Mansfield draw

Rotherham missed out on the chance to lift themselves out of the drop zone after being held to a 0-0 draw against Mansfield.

The Millers remain in one of the League One relegation berths following the stalemate with Nigel Clough’s side.

Jon Russell, on the back of two goals at the weekend, was the first to threaten in the game as he broke forward and forced Ted Cann into a sprawling save from 25 yards out.

The visitors could have gone in at the break ahead but George Abbott could not get enough of a header on Will Evans’ sharp centre across the box.

Rotherham began the second half with more energy and it took a brave block from Lucas Akins to deny Reece James an easy finish at the back post.

Harry Gray also brought Liam Roberts into the game with a stinging effort from the edge of the box.

Louis Reed’s deflected effort from the edge of the box just skipped over the bar as Mansfield came closest to nabbing all the points.
