Limerick footballers take on Cork in the McGrath Cup on Sunday
BOTH the Limerick senior hurlers and footballers had pre-Christmas workouts last weekend in preparation for their January 3 start to the New Year.

Both TJ Ryan and John Brudair are close to finalising their 2016 panels ahead of the start of the new season next week.

The hurlers had a workout against UL last Friday evening while the footballers played a challenge game against Wexford.

Both sides will be in action on the first Sunday of the New Year.

The Munster Council have confirmed dates and venues for both the Munster senior hurling league and the new-look McGrath Cup.

On January 3 the Limerick hurlers begin their season in Kilmallock at 2.00. Kerry will provide the opposition in what will be Ciaran Carey’s competitive debut as Kerry manager.

Limerick’s other home game will also be in Kilmallock - against Clare on Sunday January 24 at 2.00.

In round two Limerick travel to play Waterford in Carrianore on Sunday January 10 at 2.00.

The Limerick v Cork game has been set for Sunday January 17 at 2.00 in Mallow.

The four games come in preparation for Limerick Saturday February 13 opening league game against Wexford in the Gaelic Grounds.

The Limerick footballers are set to unveil a 28-man panel ahead of their January 3 McGrath Cup game against Cork. The game takes place in Mallow at 2.00. Limerick’s other McGrath Cup game is against Waterford in Rathkeale’s Mick Neville Park on Sunday January 17 at 2.00.

The footballers will begin their Division Three Allianz League campaign on January 31 against Tipperary in the Gaelic Grounds.
