Coventry manager Frank Lampard praised the attitude of his players after coming from a goal behind to beat Charlton 3-1 in the Championship.
Harvey Knibbs opened the scoring for the Addicks but a brace from Ellis Simms and Josh Eccles’ second goal in three games maintained the Sky Blues’ 10-point gap at the top of the table.
Lampard said: “Really pleased. Tough match to go 1-0 down, from a set-piece, the first threat that they had. That can happen.
“I thought the attitude of the players to keep playing in the first half was good, they moved the ball well.
“We had a lot of the ball, we just needed to inject speed and carry on creating chances which we managed to do.
“We continued and continued and in the second half we saw out the game very well.
“It’s very good to have scored 50 goals, it’s how we’ve been playing.
“We’re a positive team, we try to create chances, we try to play with speed and with a good pre-season the players understand what we want to be, how we want to train and we’ve managed to score a lot of goals.”
Simms scored his second brace in a week as the forward continued to make the most of his chance with Haji Wright out injured.
Lampard said: “He deserves it because of how he’s been and now he’s got his starts and he’s scoring goals, he’s a big impact in games.
“He just has to continue with that, I’m delighted for him.
“He’s a very humble lad, he gives his everything and he’s a threat when he’s like this. It’s a nice story and he must continue in this way.”
Charlton boss Nathan Jones said he was happy with his side’s performance despite a fourth defeat in a row for the Londoners, conceding 12 goals in the process.
The Welshman said: “Really disappointed with the manner of the goals. Level of performance I’m relatively happy with because there was so many positives from it.
“First half, we had the majority of the better chances. We had three or four chances, one header off the line, Sonny Carey has a real good opportunity.
“I think with better decision-making we would have gone in further ahead.
“The disappointing thing for me is the goals because we know how they score, we’ve done work to combat that then the set-play goal is a real difficult one for us to take because that should have been avoided.
“It’s been a real tough week, Southampton, Stoke and then the leaders, especially when we’re as stretched as we are, but I’m proud of the application, I’m proud of what they’ve done.”
