Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb described it as a “really solid and professional performance” after his side beat Salford 2-0.
Ollie Turton’s own goal just past the hour mark and Ronan Darcy’s late strike fired the Spireites, thrashed 6-2 at Colchester last week, to back-to-back home wins in League Two.
Salford’s best chance came when Daniel Udoh’s low shot was turned against a post by goalkeeper Zach Hemming.
Webb said: “Great performance, even better result. About this time last week there was a lot of depressed Spireites driving home.
“We can’t underestimate the importance of that game on Tuesday [against Burton in the EFL Trophy], just to give other lads a bit of game time. It just gets that Colchester game out of the system a little bit.
“The training’s been excellent all week. A lot of people say that and supporters don’t want to hear that. They want to see actions. I don’t want to hear words. To be fair, I think they saw actions today.
“They saw a team bouncing back and repaying the supporters, which was probably a really disappointing weekend for all of us.
“Everyone was on the floor Sunday morning. It was tough, especially Monday morning.
“We weren’t used to that sort of result. Clean sheet Tuesday, clean sheet today. A really, really solid and professional performance.”
Salford head coach Karl Robinson was left frustrated with his side’s failure to defend long balls.
He said: “I thought when we came out in the second half we felt we were going to be in a good place to really kick on.
“I’ve got a massive frustration with the way we defended the long balls. We didn’t look dominant. We let midfield players drop on the toes of our centre-backs rather than go to compete early.
“Something that we work on, set plays, you work on them all week, you speak about it, but if people let people go, you’re at the mercy of that.
“We’ve started the season really well, now we’ve lost three on the spin, so it doesn’t look great, but I think every team goes through a difficult patch.
“Their goalkeeper at 1-0 made an unbelievable save. There’s a blatant penalty at 1-0, which is unbelievable. I don’t know how he’s missed that.
“Just for someone to punch the ball out to play and the fact he didn’t give it a corner is because he didn’t want to say he touched it with his arm out. That’s unacceptable.
“As much as we accept our unacceptable part in the game, there’s some completely unacceptable moments as well that led to certain aspects of our game. So, I’m frustrated.”
