Dean Brennan hails Barnet’s ‘dominant’ show at Tranmere – but wants more goals

Barnet boss Dean Brennan felt his side could have won by more after they extended their unbeaten League Two run to five matches with a 2-0 victory over struggling Tranmere.

First-half goals from Lee Ndlovu and Adam Senior put the Bees on their way to a fourth win in five league games that moved them into the top seven.

The only negative for Barnet appeared to be goalkeeper Cieran Slicker being shown a second yellow card following a skirmish as the two teams made their way off the field at full-time.

But Brennan also found fault with his side’s finishing in an otherwise impressive display.

He said: “I felt we should have won by more today. We were totally dominant. They had a bit of a go after making changes at half-time, but we rode that storm without really giving them any opportunities.

“We had several glorious chances to score more goals.

“I think we probably caught Tranmere at a good time, given the number of injuries they have, but the level of our performance today showed we were simply the better team.”

Barnet’s form is leaving Brennan optimistic about their chances of a promotion push.

He added: “I’m delighted with the level of performance and the consistency over the last nine games, that’s 20 points from our last nine, which is really strong form.

“People might look at us as a small club, but we’ve got a big heart and we do things right. We’ve got a lot of excellent players.

“We’ve got one of the youngest squads in the league, and the lads want to go to the line. That gives you a chance in this business.”

Tranmere left the field to a chorus of boos after their winless run extended to a seventh game.

Rovers boss Andy Crosby said: “We deserved that reaction from the fans. I’m the manager, I pick the team, and I expect them to go out there and do a job.

“They didn’t do that today, so we were deservedly on the end of the boos and criticism at half-time and after the final whistle. It was fully justified.

“It was a dreadful performance. I said in my programme notes that at this level you have to do the basics – you have to run, fight and show commitment.

“We had a couple of opportunities to go in front, but when the basics aren’t there you deserve to get beaten and it could have been more.

“We showed a little more fight in the second half, but it wasn’t good enough to represent themselves, me, or the football club.

“When you produce performances like that, we fully deserve the fans’ reaction – they’re completely entitled to do that.

“I’ve spoken before about what it means to be a Tranmere Rovers player, and we didn’t show that, we deserve everything we got today.”
