Kylian Mbappe nets for 10th-successive match as France ease to Azerbaijan win

Kylian Mbappe scored for the 10th-successive match and for the 13th time in 14 appearances this season, as France beat Azerbaijan 3-0 in their World Cup qualifier.

The Real Madrid striker’s 53rd international goal – after a brilliant mazy dribble from deep in first-half added time – put him within four of Olivier Giroud’s national team record of 57 for France.

Adrien Rabiot and Florian Thauvin, who scored with his first touch having last played in June 2019, found the net after the break as Didier Deschamps’ side made it three wins from three in Group D.

Ukraine scored twice in the last five minutes through Ivan Kaliuzhnyi and Oleh Ocheretko to beat Iceland 5-3 and move into second place.

Germany captain Joshua Kimmich celebrated a brace in a comfortable 4-0 win over Luxembourg to move Julian Nagelsmann’s side into top spot in Group A.

David Raum and Serge Gnabry got the others in a match the visitors played with 10 men for 70 minutes after Dirk Carlton was sent off for handball.

Northern Ireland moved into second place after beating Slovakia 2-0 after a Patrik Hrosovsky own goal was followed by a second-half strike from Sunderland defender Trai Hume.

Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka and Johan Manzambi scored as Group B leaders Switzerland also recorded a 2-0 win to leave Sweden bottom with just a point after three matches. Kosovo and Slovenia finished goalless.

Second-placed Belgium were held to a goalless draw at home to by Group J leaders North Macedonia, while the 204th ranked side in the world Liechtenstein lost their sixth-successive match as they were beaten 4-0 by Kazakhstan.
