LIMERICK secondary school duo Castletroy College and Ardscoil Ris are on course to top their groups in the Harty Cup.
This Wednesday afternoon Castletroy play Cork’s CBC in Ballyagran, while on Thursday Ardscoil Ris travel to Boherlahan to play Waterford’s De La Salle. Both games start at 1.30 and while the Limerick city duo are already guaranteed January 13 quarter final spots, only victories will ensure top of the table finishes.
Also in action this Wednesday are SNTN Doon, who play St Colmans Fermoy in the Gaelic Grounds, but the east Limerick school are already out of contention.
Last January both Castletroy and Ardscoil Ris were beaten Harty Cup semi finalists. Victories this week will ensure the city rivals are kept apart in the quarter finals.
Managed by teachers Paul O’Reilly and Leonard Coughlan, Castletroy are backboned by Monaleen and Ahane players. They have already beaten St Flannans of Ennis and Clonmel.
Ardscoil Ris, managed by teachers Niall Moran, Paul Flanagan and Fergal Lyons with Barry Hennessy, have already beaten Blackwater and Cork’s Bandon and Midleton.
Also this Wednesday (12.30), two Limerick schools play in Munster finals. Hospital’s John The Baptist faces Mercy Mounthawk in Rathkeale in the U-5 B Football, while Askeaton’s Colaiste Mhuire faces Colaiste Chraoibhin in St Patricks GAA grounds in Rhebogue.
