GOALKEEPER Nickie Quaid has been confirmed as the new Limerick senior hurling captain for 2016.

The Effin man replaces Donal O’Grady, who captained Limerick for the past three seasons.

Seamus Hickey, of Murroe-Boher, is the new team vice-captain - replacing Paudie O’Brien.

Quaid made his Limerick senior debut in 2010 as an outfield player under Justin McCarthy. For the past five seasons he has been the regular No1 for the county senior side.

Confirmation of the two changes came via a Limerick GAA statement this Wednesday morning.

TJ Ryan’s Limerick will make their 2016 competitive debut on January 3 when they are away to Cork in the opening game of the new Munster senior hurling league. Limerick’s opening Allianz League game will be in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday February 13 against Wexford.
