Port Vale and Northampton share spoils in drab draw

Port Vale and Northampton played out a dour draw at Vale Park.

The visitors had the better chances but ultimately travelled home still waiting for their first win at the ground since 2016.

Darren Moore’s Vale are now unbeaten in four league games while the Cobblers have lost just one of their last six league outings.

Vale goalkeeper Joe Fauci produced a good stop to keep out Cameron McGeehan’s header from close range on the stroke of the break.

After the restart, the on-loan Aston Villa keeper denied Terry Taylor’s strike from outside of the box.

A Nesta Guinness-Walker long throw then fell to Taylor on the edge of the box but he blasted wide on the hour mark.

The away fans thought Guinness-Walker had broken the deadlock but he shot into the side-netting from six yards.

Ross Fitzsimons ensured a share of the spoils when he produced a brilliant save to deny Vale substitute Ruari Paton deep in stoppage time.
