It was another big weekend on the local soccer front with Munster Junior Cup and Tuohy Cup games all down for decision. There was also one game in the Premier League. Here is a roundup of all the action

Carew Park moved one step closer to the open draw with a 3-1 away win against Summerville Rovers. Brian Aherne gave Carew the lead with 20 minutes on the clock. Eoghan Ryan got Rovers level 10 minutes later. Jonathan Grant and Kieran Hanlon hit Carew’s other goals before half time.

Janesboro play Carew Park in the next round after they also had a 3-1 win. Ballynanty Rovers were there opposition but were no match for the Boro. Aaron Nunan gave Janesboro the lead early on but Kevin Walsh equalised for Balla. Shane Clarke hit two second half goals to send the Boro through.

Fairview Rangers also had a safe passage through to the next round after a 6-2 win over Aisling Annacotty. Andrew Walsh saved Niall Hanley’s penalty and the View took full advantage of that miss when Colin Scanlon opened the scoring. Two goals from Keith Mawdsley put Aisling in the driving seat. Paudie Quinn managed to level the game before half time and then Paul Danaher put Fairview in front. In the second half Quinn hit a hat trick in a five minute spell.

Pike Rovers eased to the next round after they beat Newport 11-4. Brian O’Sullivan scored all of Newport’s goals but it was not enough to beat Pike. Eoin Hanrahan and Colin Daly bagged hat tricks in an impressive win for Pike.

Moyross will meet Mungret Regional in the next round after they overcame Knockainey 4-1. Two goals from Barry Quinn and one each for Keith Colbert and Mike Guerin saw Moyross home. James Hayes replied for Knockainey.

There were a couple of shocks in the round and one major one was Regional B beating Caherconlish 3-2. Aaron O’Hanlon, Evan Patterson and Rory Casserly got their goals. Caherconlish responded through two goals from Mark Ryan but it wasn’t enough as the Division 1A side crashed out.

Holycross have made it through to the open stages of the Munster Junior Cup thanks to a 2-1 win over Hill Celtic. Niall O’Riordan and Chris Ward’s goals were enough to overcome Hill Celtic.

Castle United also caused a bit of a stir with their 4-1 away win at Lisnagry. Eddie Joyce’s two goals and one each from Ollie O’Driscoll and Mark Cussen sets up a tie in the next round against Fairview Rangers.

In the Tuohy Cup Janesboro had a 2-1 over Fairveiw Rangers. Aaron Nunan kept his outstanding season going with another top notch performance. Nunan opened the scoring before former Finn Harps man Oisin McMenamin doubled their advantage. Colin Scanlon picked up a late consolation for Fairview.

Byron Fitzgerald got the only goal as Mungret Regional beat Summerville 1-0 on Thursday. Fitzgerald’s winner came after Summerville were reduced to 10 men in the second half.. Mungret now play Janesboro in the semi-final on Tuesday, October 27.

There was also one Premier League game down for decision over the weekend and Geraldines came away with a 1-0 against Mungret Regional. Keith Harnett hit the games only goal after 15 minutes.
