St Johnstone’s late show against Queen’s Park continues their fine start

Scottish Championship leaders St Johnstone left it late to secure a seventh victory from eight matches.

Queen’s Park looked set to claim a point after Josh Fowler cancelled out Kai Fotheringham’s opener just before half-time but Josh McPake netted the winner in the 89th minute.

St Johnstone stayed eight points clear of Raith Rovers, who were comfortable 3-0 winners over Arbroath.

All the goals came in the second half, with Paul Hanlon opening the scoring two minutes after the break and Richard Chin and Jack Hamilton extending the lead.

Partick Thistle are up to third, and with two games in hand on those above them, after a 2-0 victory away at Dunfermline.

There was less than a minute on the clock when Tony Watt put Thistle ahead, and Logan Chalmers doubled the advantage inside 10 minutes.

Dunfermline’s afternoon was dealt another blow when Jefferson Caceres was sent off just before half-time, but Thistle were unable to add to their lead.

The most eventful game of the day came at Somerset Park, where Ayr United were 4-2 winners over Airdrieonians.

Ayr were another team flying out of the blocks, with Ethan Walker and Mark McKenzie putting them two up inside six minutes.

McKenzie made it three with only 22 minutes on the clock before Lewis McGrattan pulled one back.

Ayr led 4-1 at half-time thanks to a fourth from Jamie Murphy and, although Charlie Telfer responded again for winless Airdrie, that was as close as they could get.

Greenock Morton and Ross County played out a 1-1 draw, Ronan Hale putting the visitors ahead with a penalty in the 18th minute and Cameron Blues equalising with 17 minutes remaining.
