Caballo De Mar graduated to Group Three glory with victory in the 141st Deutsches St Leger at Dortmund.
George Scott’s charge had won four of his six handicap starts this term, as well as finishing second in both the Chester Cup and the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Last seen when down the field in the Old Borough Cup at Haydock earlier this month, the four-year-old was settled in second place by Adrie de Vries, tracking the pace-setting Waldnebel before eventually sweeping past him in the straight to secure a two-and-three-quarter-length verdict.
Scott now has more international travel planned with Caballo De Mar, who was bought by the Victorious Forever team after winning at Haydock in May.
The trainer told the race sponsor Wettstar: “Adrie gave him the perfect ride, he felt the horse handled the ground well – we are so happy to have Adrie, what a legend of the sport.
“Adrie said the horse was fine on the ground and it all went like clockwork. This is a very good, young horse, he knows how to win and he was second at Royal Ascot so he was entitled to run well.
“We will take him home and see how he is but he will be prepared for a campaign in the Middle East. He could end up in Saudi for the Red Sea Handicap and then hopefully all roads lead to the Gold Cup on World Cup night in Dubai.
“He was bought by Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid (of Victorious Forever) to be campaigned in the Middle East, so that will be the plan.”
