Jackson Longridge earns Greenock Morton draw with Arbroath

Jackson Longridge’s 80th-minute equaliser for Greenock Morton denied Arbroath’s bid to reduce St Johnstone’s lead at the summit of the Scottish Championship to three points.

On Friday night, Josh McPake struck an 83rd-minute winner as St Johnstone came from behind to see off Dunfermline 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten record and establish a six-point lead in the title race.

The onus was on Arbroath at Gayfield Park and Findlay Marshall looked to have secured the victory when he converted David Gold’s pass after 55 minutes.

But Longridge’s header with just 10 minutes to play leaves Arbroath five points back from St Johnstone having played a game more.

Raith Rovers are also five points adrift of St Johnstone after they played out a goalless draw with Airdrieonians at the Excelsior Stadium.

The home side have failed to register a win this season but Raith were unable to find a breakthrough.

Ross County’s desperate start to the season continued when they were condemned to a 2-1 home defeat by Queen’s Park.

Josh Fowler opened the scoring for the visiting side after 39 minutes before the Staggies drew level on the stroke of half-time when Ronan Hale scored from the penalty spot.

However, the hosts spent the final half-an-hour with 10 men when Declan Gallagher was dismissed and, with 14 minutes to go, Fowler had his second of the afternoon when he volleyed home.

The result leaves the Staggies rooted to the foot of the table on three points and still awaiting their first win in the league.
