Erling Haaland and Phil Foden continued their derby dominance by scoring all of Manchester City’s goals in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Manchester United.

Haaland’s brace marked his seventh and eighth goals in league derbies, equalling the record for the Premier League era.
The Norway striker pulled alongside his City predecessor Sergio Aguero and former United forward Wayne Rooney thanks to a deft chip in the 53rd minute and a breakaway finish in the 68th.
Including the era before the Premier League, the league record of nine is shared by City greats Joe Hayes and Francis Lee while in all competitions, no player can match Rooney’s 11 goals.
Haaland’s goals have come in just six league derbies, with a hat-trick – matched by Foden – in October 2022’s 6-3 win at the Etihad Stadium and another brace the following season at Old Trafford. He also has three assists, including two in the aforementioned Foden hat-trick.
His total of 11 Manchester derby goal involvements is second only to Ryan Giggs’ 13 (one goal and 12 assists) in the Premier League era – and Giggs featured in 29 derbies across 16 seasons. The Wales winger had two further derby goals in the old First Division.
Just one goal behind Haaland is team-mate Foden, level with ex-United star Eric Cantona on seven derby goals in the Premier League.
He had matched Haaland strike for strike in the fixture until the Norwegian’s second on Sunday, with the 2022 hat-trick, three goals across the two derbies in 2023-24, none last season but the headed opener this time around.
Foden has played 12 league derbies, the first as a last-minute substitute aged 17. A further four in cup competitions have yielded one assist.
Brighton are the only opponent against whom Foden has scored more Premier League goals, eight in 12 appearances, while he has seven in seven against Brentford.
Since Pep Guardiola’s appointment as City manager in 2016, his team have won 10 league derbies to United’s six with three draws.
Their dominance is even more pronounced in the last five years, with six wins to two and only one draw ahead of this season’s return fixture at Old Trafford.
Guardiola’s sides have done the double over United three times, in 2018-19, 2021-22 and 2023-24, with United achieving that feat in 2019-20 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Each side has won an FA Cup final against the other, City in 2023 and United 12 months later, with United winning a League Cup tie in Guardiola’s first season but City beating their rivals in semi-finals en route to lifting the trophy in both 2020 and 2021. City won last season’s all-Manchester Community Shield on penalties.
