Bristol City manager Gerhard Struber liked the ruthlessness his side showed in their convincing 3-0 win at struggling Sheffield Wednesday.
First-half goals from Emil Riis, Anis Mehmeti, and an own goal from Harry Amass secured a win which moves the Robins up to third in the Sky Bet Championship.
Struber said: “How we executed the match plan today was 100 per cent on point. The boys did a great job against a tough opponent.
“This is our standard. In the end we could have scored more goals, we have a clean sheet and created many chances, while they only had one shot on target.
“It has been a long time since Bristol City won in this stadium and now I think it was the right time to do it.”
Struber was full of praise for the attacking output from his side, saying: “We have a really big group of players who can score and they have great quality.
“You can see the connection between the players and how they have the freedom to take responsibility when they are in the opponents’ box.
“We were a little bit unlucky with chances like the one that hit the post. This was very professional in the second half, they had nothing, and we were very clear in our set-up.”
Struber provided an update on central defender Rob Dickie, who was substituted at half time.
He said: “He has had a few issues with his calf in the last two weeks, and it was important that we protected him at half-time.”
Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen was disappointed by the manner in which his side lost.
He explained: “It was a tough game and again we gave ourselves a very difficult beginning with another set-piece goal.
“We come back in the game and have a set-piece after 18 minutes and then have a transition against us.
“It has been a sickness, the second game in a row where we concede a goal from there and we don’t slide. We have to do that better, it is not good enough.
“I could feel after the second goal that we lost some of our confidence to play and move.
“In the second half the boys worked really well to stay in the game, not the result, but to stay in the game.
“We did a good job but of course we are not here to lose 3-0. We are here to get points and win football games.”
He added: “I don’t think they (Bristol City) played especially well but we were too friendly against them.
“We have to be better and we need to have more resilience and confidence to play when we are 1-0 down.
“We have more or less the same expected goals today but we need more confidence in these phases of the game.
“We spoke before the game about how we have shown that we can compete in phases of games but we have not yet shown that we can compete over 95 minutes.
“I can still see how well the boys are working and how much they do for each other. We will keep on going with this.”
