LAWSON CUP:

Fairview Rangers 4 Kilmallock 0

LAWSON Cup holders Fairview Rgs are the first Premier side to taste Lawson Cup action this season and they showed they have no intentions of letting go of the trophy as they kicked off with a 4-0 win over a good Kilmallock XI in the Fairgreen on Saturday evening.

The final result does not do justice to the county side who made the Premier leaders fight tooth and nail for every ball.
The game was heading for a scoreless first half with two minutes remaining but good play by Conor Kavanagh and Kane Connolly created the opening for Cian McNamara to break the deadlock.

Five minutes after the restart Fairview took control of the tie when a foul on Filip Mostowy in the penalty area presented Kevin Barry with a spot kick which he converted to bring his tally for the season to 17.

Kilmallock continued to battle and were denied two goals when Josh McCarthy saved efforts from Jack Barry and Kyle Tierney.
Fairview weathered the pressure and made it 3-0 with ten minutes remaining. An inviting cross by Jake Dillion saw Jeffrey judge score at the back post.

With the game in injury time Shane Duggan fired into the top corner from outside the box. Fairview’s reward is a third-round tie against Patrickswell or Charleville for a place in the quarter finals.

Kilmallock, challenging for a return to the top flight, showed they are capable of playing at this level which should stand to them in their run-in.

Fairview Rgs: Josh McCarthy GK; Jake Dillon; Blake Curran; Thomas O'Connor; Jason Cross; Conor Kavanagh; Cian McNamara; Jeffery Judge; Kevin Barry; Filip Mostowy; Kane Connolly, Subs: Shane Duggan; Liam Quinn; Brian Aherne; Josh Quinlivan; Adam Dore.

PREMIER LEAGUE:

Coonagh Utd1 Regional Utd 3
IT'S as you were at the top of the Premier League with four teams sharing the lead again after the weekend results.

Regional Utd bounced back from their midweek defeat in the Tuohy Cup to Pike Rvs by taking all three points on offer at Coonagh Utd.

Regional dropped a couple of points early in the season to Coonagh, points that would have seen them top of the table on their own so they were keen to eke out some revenge.

Once again Coonagh, smarting from a heavy defeat last time out, proved a tough nut to crack for Sean Russell’s men.
The home side battled gamely and made life most uncomfortable for the visitors. When Sean Hartney scored with a bizarre long-range effort, we wondered was another shock on the cards.

However, before the break Eoin Duff levelled the tie and shortly after the restart the same player scored again following food work by Kieran O’Connell.

Coonagh refused to fold and were beginning to cause Regional trouble when a quick breakaway saw Duff complete an impressive hat trick to seal the points ten minutes from time.

Nenagh AFC 0 Pike Rovers 2

PIKE Rvs also won their outstanding game to regain a share of the lead in the Premier League following a 2-0 win at Nenagh on Sunday.

After a scoreless first half, Pat Mullins headed Pike in front from Shane Walsh’s inswinging free kick.
Shane Clarke took his tally to 20 when he converted a spot kick to double the lead ten minutes later.
Nenagh battled hard but could not pierce a solid Pike set up.

Nenagh AFC: Aaron Savage; James Hanley; Lee Mowatt; Kieran Barr; Conor McCormack; Ryan Gilmartin; Kieran O'Brien; Eamon White; Dan O'Mara; Adam Ryan; Cillian Scully. Subs: John O'Mara; Mark McKenna; Tom Heffernan; Eoin Coffey; Cathal Coonon.

Geraldines 0 Ballynanty Rovers 3

CONOR Keane was the hero of this game scoring all three goals for Ballynanty Rvs at Geraldines.

Keane broke the deadlock when he scored on the rebound after Cian O’Brien had saved his penalty kick.

Five minutes later a rasping effort from Eddie Byrnes rebounded off the goal and Keane was again sharpest to fire in the rebound.

Keane completed his hat trick when left unmarked at the edge of the Dines area and duly fired in to secure the win.

Geraldines: Cian O'Brien; Dean McNamara; Jason Mullins; Cian Byrnes; Ethan O'Sullivan; Conor Madigan; Kyle Mullins; Ousman Darboe; Scott Kelly; Tony Mambuana; Karl Turner, Subs: Liam Chambers; Dean McNamara; Conor Lynch; David Considine.

Charleville 0 Mungret Reg 3

MUNGRET Reg recorded a priceless win at bottom side Charleville on Saturday evening to move well away from the dreaded drop zone.

The result puts seven points between Mungret and Nenagh and Coonagh joined in the second relegation spot.
Charleville, now ten points from safety and with just eight games remaining, started the well and looked like they might take something from the game.

However, before the break, the visitors broke down the left when Aled Harkin’s outrageous back flick put Mark Patterson clear and he crossed for Kieran Long to finish at the back post.

Mungret doubled their lead shortly after the restart. Harkin was again involved when he found Hamza Selman Celik who cross for Cian McNicholas to score.
Five minutes later the roles were reversed when McNicholas supplied the ammo and Celik headed in the third and final goal.

Try as they did Charleville had nothing to show at the end, thanks in large part to Ronan McElligott who made a number of fine saves for the visitors.

Charleville: Chris Kenny; Eoin O'Connor; Joey Herbert; Mark Kavanagh; James Horgan; Frank Herr; James O'Brien; Jack Callaghan; Jorge Gustavo; Igor Arriel; Sean McCormack, Subs: Jason O'Hara; Fionn O'Connor; Gerry O'Reilly.
