CBS Sexton Street students Peter Purcell, Cillian Honan and Luke Carey
THREE CBS Sexton Street students in Limerick city are celebrating significant success in their chosen sports this week.
Peter Purcell, aged 14, from Southill, recently won a gold medal at the European Tang Soo Do championships in Belfast for his Ballysimon club. Tang Soo Do is a Korean Martial art based on Karate, similar to kick boxing. Peter has competed all around the world through the sport and originally got involved in Tang Soo Do in national school.
“I took up the sport in third class and I haven't looked back since, I have competed nationally for my club and also at the international level as well.”
In another form of martial arts, Junior Certificate student, Cillian Honan brought home two European sliver medals in kickboxing while representing Ireland. Cillian battled the hot weather to win his medals in Scotland earlier in the month.
He continued: “I love representing Ireland in kickboxing and even though my last event was difficult due to the weather I was able to perform and bring home two medals.”
The final CBS Sexton Street student who has enjoyed significant sporting success recently was transition year student, Luke Carey, from Garryowen.
Luke, who is a highly promising golfer, recently was part of the Limerick Golf Club team which won the Junior Cup All-Ireland against Greystones GC off the back of winning the first ever captain's cup in the Junior section at Limerick Golf Club.
