Michael ‘Curley’ Cunningham 4 Mile:
ON the 6th anniversary of his death, there was a large turnout from Clubs across the region in memory a true running legend. Declan Moore took victory in a time of 19:39 with Killian Lynch of West Limerick second in 20:42.
The first two miles were a close contest before Moore pulled away. Sean Blackburn of Leevale took the ‘Bronze Medal’ in 21:39. Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum was the Women’s winner in 22:42 with Angela McCann of Clonmel 2nd in 24:27 and clubmate Suzanne Shine was 3rd in 25:30.
Clare Coleman, of Dooneen AC, was 4 th in 25:51 with Sinead McDermott 5th in 26:05. Selected others Tom Blackburn 23:22, Kevin Johnson 23:40 and Seamus McCarthy (both Dooneen) 24:25, PJ Carey 24:37, Tony McMahon 27:13, Maire O’Sullivan 32:27.
A tropical evening in the shadow of the Galtee Mountains with more than 120 taking part provided a fitting tribute to a great man who departed too soon.
Moreabbey Milers look forward to welcoming athletes back to Galbally on Sunday 9th July for their AAI permitted 10 Miler.
North Munster Schools Track & Field Championships:
There was excellent performances by Limerick Athletes over the 2 days, from athletes new and more experienced. The top 3 in each event qualify for the Munster ‘finals’ this week again in Castleisland.
Highlights included a new CBF from Destiny Lawal (Castletroy) in the Minior Girls 100m (11.9 secs). Dooneen Clubmate Emer Purtill (Mungret CC) set a new record in the Minor High Jump clearing 1.55m.
She also took 1st place in the Javelin (35.13) with Megan Love (Castletroy) second. On day 2 Purtill set another CBP in the Minor Shot 12.18, won the 200m in 27.2 secs and featured on the victorious 4x100m Relay side.
Grace Mainoo (Castletroy) took silver in the Junior girls 200m (27.0) with Dooneen Clubmate Niamh Hynes just behind taking Bronze for Mungret in 27.3. Leagh Moloney (Gael Cholaiste Luimnigh) took Gold in the Intermediate Triple Jump (11.07) and won the Long Jump (5.25m).
Also at Intermediate Ross O’Carroll (Mungret) took Gold in the 800m in 2:08:08 and Bronze in the 1500m (4:34.9).
Eimer Ryan (Salesians Pallaskenry) took silver in the Inter. Girls Javelin (27:90m) and bronze in the Shot (9:29m).
Orla O’Shaughnessy (also Salesians) took Silver in the 200m (25.2 secs). At Senior there was a Castletroy sprint double in the 100m with Debbie Lawal 1st in 11.7 secs with Rex Nyamakazi winning the Boys event in 10.9 secs.
Lamine Diarrassouba took Silver in the Boys 200m (22.5) with ‘Troy’ Classmate Aaron O’Connor 1st in the Triple Jump in 12.32.
Sarah Butler (Laurel Hill) set a new CBP in winning the Senior Steeplechase in 5.45.5 with Angel Alfred (LH) winning the Shot (8.89).
Callum Keating comfortably took the Senior Shot Put title for Hazelwood Dromcollogher in 15.92m.
St Munchins College a school with a great athletic history made a welcome return to competition as Luke Calitz took Gold in the Senior 200m (22.5) and Oisin Minogue was 1st in the Senior Javelin (32.00).
In the Relays there was Gold Medals for Mungret College in the Minor Girls 4x100m. Laurel Hill Secondary won the Senior Girls event and with Castletroy completing a Limerick double by winning the Senior Boys 4x100m.
Limerick County Track and Field Championships:
Many of the same athletes competed in the Limerick County Championships on Sunday at UL.
Stand out performers included Ellen Goggin in winning the 600m, Dooneen clubmate Lilly McMahon in the Long Jump and Cooper Martin. For Limerick AC Rian Kiely Keogan, Cillian Coman and Darragh Whelan were excellent.
It was also good to see the newly formed Mount Trenchard serving the Foynes area take part. well done to all who competed.

Karol Downey (W.L.) ran the scenic Run Killarney 10K in a time of 41:13 Aislinnn Nic Domhanill ran the Copenhagen Marathon in a super time of 2:43:03

The Ger Mullane Memorial 5/10K returns on Friday 16 th June and is hosted by Bilboa.
