U17 Division One League
Aisling Annacotty A 3 Fairview Rgs 2
The U17 League produced a thrilling climax on Thursday evening in Annacotty. Aisling hosted Fairview Rgs needing to win the game to pip Fairview at the post for the league title.
In a game that was credit to both sets of players and their clubs, Aisling succeeded in achieving their goal but did it the hard way.
Fairview opened the scoring after about ten minutes through Chulainn Williams and were on top for most of first half. However, Aisling played their way back into the tie as the half ended.
After the restart the sides were level when great work form Davy Brennan on the left ended with a cross that saw Alex Keating and Colm Kinehan apply the pressure as the ball was bundled to the net.
Fairview were not done however and when they regained the lead ten minutes later through Rory Watts it looked like they would prevail.
Aisling bounced back again and again Brennan was the catalyst delivering to the back post for top scorer Alex Keating to head home.
A draw was no good to Aisling so they threw caution to the win and got their reward in the dying minutes when Cathal Downes made his way down the left wing and delivered a great ball into the danger zone where super sub Tomek Garbat arrived at the back post to head in what proved the winning goal.
