COUNTY TIPPERARY

Mens Golf: Last weekend we had our first Medal Competition of the year which was the Kinsella Cup, sponsored by Jim and Bridie Kinsella. This as usual had an excellent turnout. It is one of our most popular competitions in the calendar. Thanks to Jim & Bridie for their sponsorship. The winner was Aidan Fogarty playing off 19 with a fine score of 40pts (CB) In 2nd place Joe Murray (22) with 40pts. The Best Gross; Adam Buckley (3) 34pts in 3rd Place Brian Mackey (12) 38pts & in 4th Martin Quirke (18) 38pts
Cat 1: In 1st place Dermot Keating (5) 35pts, 2nd Timothy Ryan (6) 35pts. Cat 2: In 1st place Drew Mclean (10) 38pts, 2nd Kevin McCarthy (13) 37pts. Cat 3: In 1st place Philip Connolly (17) 36pts, 2nd James Ryan (16) 36pts Cat 4 in 1st place Noel Ryan (21) 38 pts, 2nd Damien O’Dwyer (21) 37pts Senior winner: Liam Ryan (con) (15) 35pts The result of the 9-hole competition; in 1st place President Paddy Fitzgerald with 18pts, and in 2nd place Kevin Fitzgerald with 16pts.
Ladies Golf: Last Tuesday’s winner was Carlyn Hyde with 18 points and Mary O’Donnell got the lucky dip. The course was closed on Wednesday so our 18 hole was deferred to Sunday April 16th.
On Thursday the course reopened for members at noon and we were able to play our Thursday evening social golf. The winner was Laura Hickey with 19 points. Well done Laura. Niamh Chadwick was 2nd with 18 points on count back, and Pauline Fitzgerald won the lucky dip. Our Challenge cup team consisting of Niamh Chadwick, Anne Grace, Judy Hayes, Marie Graves, Mary O’Donnell and reserve Rose Smith.
They played their first round match play in Dundrum on Saturday April 15th against Tramore. The team were very strong throughout the game and after 6 holes leaving jacks field Niamh was 4 up, Anne 2 up, Judy 2 up and was Mary level. On the 16th the team were 3 matches up and were declared the winners. Congratulations to the team on a very strong performance. A special thanks to their caddies and team managers, Kay Crosse and Pauline Tracey.
The team’s next round will be against Slievenamon in Dundrum in May. The Minor cup team were out against Faithlegg in Faithlegg on Sunday. The team of Caroline O’Dwyer, Jenny Lawrence, Colette O’Dwyer, Patricia Moran, Lady captain Jacinta Coman and reserve Flan McGlinchey. The tee off was at 12.30. It was a very close match throughout all hinging on the last match which went down to the 18 hole, but unfortunately the home team won out in the end. County Tipperary had a brilliant team that showed great determination but were unlucky on the day.

This week competitions are R & A 9-hole challenge on Sunday 16th or Wednesday 19th April and on Tuesday we have a 9-hole qualifier.
Reminder; Ladies that we will be having our first medal an 18-hole competition starting Sunday 23th and Wednesday 26th April. This is the Heffernan McGuire Cup and a Stableford Competition. Thanks to Phyllis Heffernan for her continued support to the club.
Seniors Golf: The Results of last week’s 9-hole scramble; in 1st place Tommy Landers, Charlie Gaffney & Tom Hayes 28.6. In 2nd place John Grogan, John O’Donovan & John Moloney 30.1 & in 3rd place Tommy Moloney, Seamus King & Larry Hickey 30.8.
