THERE was no Munster Senior Cup cheer for Treaty United, who lost out to fellow First Division rivals, Cobh Ramblers 3-2 in their semi-final fixture on Monday night.

A youthful Treaty side were hoping for a first final appearance, but fell short against in-form Ramblers. This Munster Senior Cup tie, saw both First Division sides experiment with youthful XI’s, before an extremely depopulated Jackman Park.

Despite taking an early lead, mistakes proved the undoing of Tommy Barrett’s side, who will quickly turn their attention to anther Munster derby, at home to Waterford, on Friday at Markets Field.

United struck the front after just four minutes, when Colin Kelly curled a low effort into the corner after a nice switch of play from Martin Coughlan.

The reply was quick and effective from Cobh, levelling this up after nine, when Conor Drinan buried to the net.

Shane Keegan’s Rams, who won 3-0 on Shannonside in the league recently, took a half-time lead when Jake Hegarty pounced on a missed clearance from the United defence.

The result looked secured when Liam Kervick collected a Drinan pass to finish from an acute angle for a two goal buffer.

Treaty had a handful of openings but didn’t pull a goal back until it was too late, defender Darren Nwankwo heading home from a Conor Barry corner. There was to be no third United goal which would have forced extra-time.
