THREE Limerick sides are in quarter final action in the Munster Junior Cup this weekend with hopes high we can get three sides through to the last four of the provincial tournament.
Holders Fairview Rgs face a difficult assignment away to Tipperary outfit Peakevilla.
Fairview Rgs had a good preparation, beating Nenagh 2-0 last Saturday to keep their title hopes on track.
Peakevilla lie second in the Tipperary South Premier League, but their preparation was hindered by the cancellation of their game last weekend.
Fairview have had no luck with the draw to date but have shown a determination to keep hold of the trophy.
Regional Utd had a jaw dropping 5-0 win over FAI Champions, Villa FC in the last round and their reward is a home tie against Avondale.
The Cork side edged out Nenagh in the previous round and they will not fear the trip to Limerick.
Regional went down 3-2 to Aisling in the Lawson Cup last weekend but you feel they might prove a different proposition on Sunday.
Limerick’s other representatives, Ballynanty Rvs are also on the road as they travel to College Corinthians. The Cork side are midtable in the MSL’s Junior Premier League and come into the tie on the back of an 8-1 win over Carrigtwohill.
Ballynanty Rovers went down narrowly to Pike Rovers last weekend for their first defeat since September.
They will have regrouped for Sunday and with a strengthened side can go into the tie with confidence.
In the Premier A League, Newport will be unbackable favourites to reach the Premier League for the first time in their history if they can take the points at home to Newport.
The sides met recently in cup fare when Newport ran out 5-0 winners so they will be confident.
Geraldines also have their sights set on promotion and a win at home to Kilmallock.
The divisional cups kick off this weekend with a number of mouth-watering ties on offer.
In the Div 1A Cup leaders Caherdavin Celtic take on a Pallagreen side coming into the tie in good form while second placed Summerville face a real test away to Knockainey.
A cracking tie is on offer in the Div 1B Cup when leaders Patrickswell host a good Mungret Reg XI.
Two superb teams cross swords in the Div 2A Cup when Aisling Annacotty D host Nenagh B. The winners of this would be expected to go all the way in the competition while Div 3B leaders Granville take on a much improved Corbally Utd side.
