Limerick Panto Society’s Snow White at the Millennium Theatre TUS
Limerick Panto Society was founded in 1985 with the purpose of creating and keeping Panto tradition alive in Limerick.
After last year's complete sell out we are back with a bang, "Oh Yes We Are".
The group is busy preparing for this year’s production Snow White (The Fairest Panto in the Land), which will be staged at the The Millennium Theatre TUS from December 27, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
This season’s offering will be the Society’s 37th production and the group is excited to be back at their new home in The Millennium Theatre, TUS. The Society would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and management of TUS (Technical University of the Shannon) for providing a wonderful venue.
The classic tale of Snow White will be staged with all your favourite characters performing.
The story will as usual contain many surprises and promises many a twist and turn along the way. However the important aspect of all the group's productions is that it prides itself on traditional family entertainment and of course the importance of interactions with the audience.
The interactions with the audience are the very essence of a successful pantomime.
Snow White originally written by John A Finn and now updated by Tim Cusack, promises to be fantastic for all the family.
Everyone at the Society is delighted that Tim will return as the panto Dame where he will be playing the part of the Evil Queen.
We also have a few new faces this year including our leading lady Jane Delahunty playing the part of Snow White, and of course a few familiar faces returning to the stage.
Snow White this year has quite a few well known characters, from Superheroes , a Magic Mirror back to the future with Doc and Marty and of course our very own Barbie and Ken.
Tony Cusack who has vast experience in the Light Entertainment field will lead the production team for Snow White. Tony has assembled a talented and experienced group to ensure that this year’s production will maintain the standards of past performances. Damian O’Brien will be the Stage Manager. Mike O’Brien is the Lighting Director for the Production.
The society is delighted to announce that this year’s show will once again be in association with the Crescent Shopping Centre. The Crescent has always supported the group and the Traders Association will be the main sponsors of the production this year. A massive thank you to Mr John Davitt and all at the Crescent.
We are delighted that Shannon Airport is again on board this year and we are grateful to Mr Declan Power and all at the Airport.
The society have also secured Corporate Sponsors Mr Binman, Limerick City Hotel, McGettigans, Quirke Shaw Cleaning Supplies and McDonalds and indeed the group are delighted and grateful to all their Sponsors, Patrons and Supporters.
The Society continues its policy of supporting local charities and this year the Charity Night on January 5 at 7.30pm, will be in aid of St Gabriel's Foundation.
The Society has raised thousands of euros over the years in support of local charities and is delighted to be associated with St Gabriel's.
Gabriel’s Foundation was founded in 1961. It is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity and is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. St. Gabriel’s provides services to children with disabilities and their families through two Children’s Disability Network Teams (Treehouse and South City), Hydrotherapy, Orthotics and a purpose-built state of the art Children’s Respite House in Mungret.
Another initiative this year is that we will be having a special “Sensory Show” on Sunday January 7 at 12pm.
The Panto Society has had the support of local Stage and Dance Schools all through the years.
Performing the children’s chorus in Snow White will be Spotlight Stage School under the direction of Judy O’Connor and Margaret Hough, Expressive Arts under the direction of Pearl Kiely and Gemstars under the direction of Emma O’Driscoll and Georgina O’Driscoll.
It is wonderful to see the talent being produced by all these hard-working Stage Schools.
The Panto will include many contemporary songs from the Charts and hit shows and promises something for all tastes. Dance Direction of the Limerick Panto Chorus is in the capable hands of Choreographer Lisa Hogan.
Elaine Davern is the Chorus Mistress with Musical Direction in the hands of Michael Hinchy.
The Society boosts a Chorus of over 50 talented performers who will perform a number of fantastic chorus numbers accompanied by a live orchestra – all being performed live on stage.
Sandra Finn and Imelda Cusack will manage the magnificent costumes which will enhance this massive production.
The setting in the Millennium Theatre is fantastic and for many children this is their first visit to the theatre and the hope is that the young boys and girls will treasure the experience.
Chairperson, Gráinne McCarthy, all the Panto Committee and Panto Family are really looking forward to this year’s production.
