TREATY United powered their way into the quarter-finals of the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup after scoring a runaway 8-0 first round victory over Ferns United at the Markets Field on Saturday.

It is the second year in a row that Treaty have recorded a big victory over the Wexford side in the Women's FAI Cup.

A youthful Treaty United side led the game 3-0 at half-time and added five more goals in the second period to impressively advance to the next round of the Cup.

Ciaran Breslin scored a brace of goals in the first half on seven and 34 minutes before Aibhlinn Cotter's superb free-kick from distance gave Treaty a three-goal advantage at the break.

Breslin's goals were her second and third goals of the season for Treaty. 

Kate Lee came on as a substitute for Sean Russell's side at the break and quickly added a fourth goal with one of her first touches of the game. Sirena Celebrini, who made her senior Treaty United debut at the start of the season, then scored her first ever goal at senior level to make it 5-0 to the home side. 

Exciting Limerick teenager Amy Tierney, who joined Treaty United from Shamrock Rovers this season, then added a sixth goal for Treaty United close to the hour mark.

The talented Cotter, who is in her first full season with the Senior Women’s team having made her debut last July, then added a seventh goal on 67 minutes. Treaty had an eighth goal when Hayley Nolan turned into her own net late on.

For the Cup game, Treaty United manager Sean Russell made seven changes from the side which secured a precious 2-1 away league victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park seven days earlier. 

Katie Irwin, Grace McInerney, Kate O'Donovan, Aibhlinn Cotter, Anna Dignam, Laura O'Neill and Sirena Celebrini all came into the starting line-up, while Grace Gleeson, Grace Ehinger and Kate Lee returned to the matchday squad. 

Treaty United women's side had defeated Ferns United 9-0 in the first round of last season's Women's FAI Cup in the Markets Field.

Treaty United return to action on Saturday next, July 5, when travelling to Dublin to take on Shelbourne in an All-Island Cup quarter-final at Tolka Park, 4pm kick-off.
