PREMIER LEAGUE:

Aisling Annacotty 1 Fairview Rangers 3

FAIRVIEW Rgs kept their Premier League title hopes firmly on track on Saturday evening with a super 3-1 win at champions Aisling Annacotty.

Fairview, received a huge boost in confidence, particularly in the manner of victory, coming from a goal down to take the spoils.

Although clear cut chances were not too plentiful, the large crowd was treated to an entertaining tough encounter with defences dominant for most of the game.

On the other hand, the result puts a huge dent in Aisling’s hopes of retaining the title although there is still a long way to go. They deployed a long ball game on the night and their failure to adapt when it was obvious it wasn’t working proved costly in the end.

Neither keeper was forced into a save (other than routine) in the opening half with the main threat coming from Brian Aherne and Darragh Rainsford for the visitors, while Conor Coughlan and Joel Coustrain always looked capable of creating an opening.
After the confining opening half, few would have forecast the arrival of four goals.

The home side broke the deadlock shortly after the restart. From a Fairview attack, a clearance by Conor Carew sent Coughlan free of the Fairview defence and he crossed for Willie Armshaw to send a cracking shot to the roof of the net.

Fairview were back on level terms six minutes later. Conor Kavanagh was introduced as Fairview lined up for a corner kick and with his first touch of the ball tucked away Danny O’Neill’s low ball from close range.

The visitors took the lead fifteen minutes from time when Blake Curran’s throw-in was flicked on by Jason Cross and Brian Aherne headed in from six yards.

The points were sewn up five minutes later. Aisling were again caught from a set piece, a near replica of the second goal. This time it was Danny O’Neill’s throw on the right, Cross again flicked on and Aherne was again ideally placed to head in from close range.
