A STRONG first half display laid the groundwork for St Munchin’s College to secure a place in the Munster Schools Junior Cup final, beating Bandon Grammar 44-8 in Thomond Park on Wednesday.
The win means the double is on for the Corbally school who have a Senior Cup final to look forward to in two weeks’ time.
The Junior side showed all their ability as they were the better side throughout in this contest.
Early pressure told as Munchin’s won a penalty with their first attack. Jack Goode showed no early nerves to kick his side ahead in the third minute.
Goode doubled his tally five minutes later, this time from just inside the 10-metre line
Cian Angley, who scored two tries in the qualifier win over Rockwell College, got the first five-pointer here. The move started when Phelim Hennelly stole a line-out just inside the 22. Within a couple of phases, Angley spotted a gap and made no mistake going over in the corner.

The line-out was fruitful for the Limerick side throughout with Anluan White also claiming two against the throw in the first half as Bandon failed to get to grips their opponents.
White’s strength from the line-up led to Munchin’s second try. His claimed the throw before the Limerick side mauled it close to the line before hooker Caleb Crofton O’Riordan touched down to give his side a 16-0 lead.
There was brief respite for the Cork side through a Jos Keating penalty although within two minutes Oscar Madden got Munchin’s third try as the Limerick side led 23-3 at the break.
After being camped in their own half for almost all of the first 10 minutes of the second half, a break from Angley opened up the Bandon defence and he offloaded to Goode who put the result beyond doubt.
Madden and Tristan Eales got late tries to secure the comprehensive win for St Munchins either side of Oscar Kinahan’s consolation score for the visitors.
