CRESCENT College Comprehensive are into the next round of the Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup after a thrilling 15-14 win over Glenstal Abbey at Thomond Park this Wednesday.
The Limerick derby was a tight affair with Crescent scoring tries through Cian Robertson and Danny Fitzpatrick. Glenstal responded through Dan Nicholas and Hugh McGuirk but it was not enough to see off a Crescent side that just shaded the contest.
Eoghan Hogan had Crescent in front with a penalty on 15 minutes, but Glenstal soon hit the front with Nicholas touching down following a sustained period of pressure inside the Crescent ’22. Conal Rowan added the extras to see Glenstal 7-3 in front.
Crescent responded just before the break thanks to Cian Robertson after big carries from David Fitzpatrick and Isaac Killing. Hogan nailed the conversion to put Crescent 10-7 up at the break.
The Dooradoyle school were the dominant side in the second half and were rewarded on 50 minutes when Fitzpatrick added a second try with Fitzpatrick and Robertson both influential in the build-up.
Following a hard carry off the back of a lineout, the ball was moved with Killing and David Kidney following up with strong carries on their own. Robertson and Adam Bennett then carried close to the line, before Fitzpatrick did the necessary.
Glenstal came to life after the concession of that score and McGuirk touched down to bring them back into the contest. Rowan kicked the conversion but Crescent held on for the one-point victory.
