Jenna Slattery in action for the Republic of Ireland U19s against Northern Ireland at the Markets Field in 2021
TALENTED Limerick soccer player Jenna Slattery has signed for Scottish Women's Premier League side Hearts Women until the summer of 2026.
Twenty-year-old midfielder Slattery, who previously played with Fairview Rangers and Treaty United, joins Hearts from SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division side from Galway United where she has spent the last two seasons.
Slattery has emerged as one of the most talented players in the League of Ireland in recent seasons.
The Limerick woman has already been capped 11 times for the Republic of Ireland at U19s level, scoring on two occasions.
Slattery was also the top scorer in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division last season and was named in the League of Ireland Team of the Year.
Slattery, who is currently sidelined with an injury, joins Eva Olid’s Hearts side on an 18-month deal with the option for a further 12 months included.
Hearts are currently sitting in fifth place in the Scottish Women's Premier League table.
Jenna Slattery told Hearts TV: "The proper feeling hasn't really sunk in yet. I've finally made this big move that I've always dreamt of as a young girl. To be here right now it's a pretty surreal moment.
"I always love a good challenge. When I was back home, moving from Treaty United to Galway United, I've always loved a challenge. I think this was the time, being 20, the challenge was to go a little bit further this year and it's what I wanted to do."
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, Hearts manager Olid said:“We’re delighted to welcome a player of Jenna’s quality to the club so early in the window. This was a position that we were keen to strengthen in, after what’s been a positive start to the season.
“It’s important to have midfielders that can provide you with goals and Jenna’s technical and physical attributes will certainly see her provide that for us. Her goalscoring record speaks for itself and I’m very much looking forward to working with her.
Women’s Head of Recruitment Sean Burt added: “January is always a difficult month to recruit in, so I’m very pleased that we’ve able to add one of Ireland’s brightest talents to our squad.
“Having watched Jenna for a period of time, it didn’t take long to realise her immediate talent, but also given her age, her potential. A box-to-box midfielder, she has great energy and desire to get forward and make those late runs from deep into attacking positions.
“The prospect of her joining the club is very exciting and I’m confident that Jenna will be a huge success at the club.”
