Limerick City and County Council is looking to spend an estimated €200,000 on a park and ride event manager for the park and ride system that will be in place for next year’s Ryder Cup taking place at Adare Manor.
In new tender documents, it explains that the council is involved in the development of a transport strategy and the identification and delivery of a number of temporary park and ride sites within Limerick city and the county to cater the event to be staged in September 2027.
The tender identifies four sites at Croagh West, Croagh North and Croagh South, Patrickswell Field+Race Course and ‘Mackey’ with cumulative parking spaces of 24,500 vehicles.
The tender states that there is an additional site under construction which may be added to the existing list or alternatively replace an identified site.
The brief states that the estimated attendance to the Ryder Cup will be in the order of 60,000 people per day, with the expected daily vehicle use of the Park and Ride sites to be in the order of up to 20,000 vehicles across all sites and 30,000-40,000 plus people.

The staging of the event in September 2027 is expected to deliver a significant economic dividend for the Mid-West and the country - the 2023 Ryder Cup held in Rome which resulted in an estimated economic impact of €262 million for Italy, including 241,000 visitors from 200 different countries.
The tender states that those parties tendering for the work “must have experience in the delivery of events of the nature and stature of the Ryder Cup”.
The brief states that the successful tenderer is to work with Limerick City and County Council to review the detailed layouts for the P&R sites, being conscious of the granted planning permissions for the sites and the conditions that arise with them.
The brief states that some of the items to be considered are the traffic management at the entry and egress points, including reception and ticket checking areas; ticketing philosophy from Ryder Cup Europe and traffic management within the site.
The tender states that the successful tenderer is to plan on how the management of the sites will look to minimise damage to the existing land over the course of the six day event.
The successful tenderer is to also manage and run the P&R sites in conjunction with An Garda Siochána and other key stakeholders, bus providers, emergency services etc for the duration of the Ryder Cup event.
The successful tenderer is to also provide the personnel to manage each of the identified sites.
The tender states that the scope of the project may expand and contract as items arise.
It states that the final fee will be amended as necessary to reflect these changes and that it may be a requirement for the appointed event manager to procure and manage additional services on behalf of Limerick City and County Council, such as the provision of private security services and associated operatives for each Park and Ride site or CCTV services.
The tender states that this will be agreed with the successful tenderer in due course.
The closing date for the submission of tenders is April 13, 2026.
