Munster Rugby's historic clash with Crusaders set for live TV coverage

Munster Rugby face the Crusaders at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday next, February 3

MUNSTER Rugby's historic ‘Clash of Champions’ meeting with Super Rugby champions, the Crusaders, at Páirc Uí Chaoimh will be televised live on TG4 on Saturday next.

This historic event will mark the first-ever meeting between the winners of Super Rugby and the URC, and fans can enjoy the action free-to-air on TG4.

New Zealand franchise, the Crusaders, secured their seventh successive Super Rugby Pacific championship in Waikato defeating Chiefs 25-20 to retain their title last June.

They are the most successful team in the competition’s history having won 14 trophies and are world renowned for their history and record of success and excellence.

Following Munster’s URC success in Cape Town last season, it will be the first time ever the reigning champions of the URC and Super Rugby face off against each other.

Former Munster Head Coach Rob Penney is Head Coach for the Crusaders and their pre-season campaign will see them embark on their first-ever international tour for fixtures against Munster and Bristol Bears.

TG4's coverage of Munster v Crusaders will commence at 16:30 on Saturday next, February 3. The game gets underway at 5pm.

David Kavanagh, Head of Commercial at Munster Rugby, said, “We are delighted to have the Crusaders game live on terrestrial television. Once again, as we take on a major touring side, the game will be available to view in all households across the country and further afield. It’s also particularly gratifying to have the game on TG4, given their commitment to the URC and Munster Rugby and their excellent rugby coverage over many years. It promises to be a great event!”.

TG4’s Rugbaí Beo led by presenter Máire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill with Garry Mac Donncha, Eoghan O Neachtain and Eamonn Molloy, is produced by Iris Productions. The Galway based production company spearheaded many innovations in their previous rugby coverage on TG4, including behind-the-scenes referee briefings and audio-snoops on coaches and players. NEP Ireland will provide OB facilities.
