MUNSTER Rugby prop Oli Jager says Peter O'Mahony is a 'fantastic fit' to lead Ireland in the upcoming Six Nations Championship.
Thirty four-year-old O'Mahony, who captained Munster for a decade, has earned 101 Ireland caps.
Ireland head coach Andy Farrell confirmed Munster back-row O'Mahony as Ireland captain for the Six Nations, replacing the retired Jonathan Sexton when he announced his 34-man squad for the championship on Wednesday.
On top of the 34-strong squad named for the Six Nations, Farrell included further 'training additions' to the squad - the Munster duo of Oli Jager and Thomas Ahern and Leinster out-half Sam Prendergast - who will travel with the Ireland squad to Portugal next Wednesday for their pre-tournament training camp in Quinta do Lago.
Jager, who joined Munster from New Zealand Super Rugby side, the Crusaders, in recent months said O'Mahony was someone who knew how to get the best out of his team mates on the pitch.
Jager said: "Well I think he's (Peter O'Mahony) a great fella, first of all, he's obviously around all the boys and has a good laugh, he's always around taking the mick in the changing rooms but once we hit the field he's stern, he knows what he wants and how to get the best out of everybody on the field.
"It all comes from a place of care, too, so look if he is named as captain, it's a fantastic fit, I think. Since I've been here and got to know him a little bit, as I said he's a great guy, a great player and a great leader, on and off the field.
"I think it will be good to see him in that role."
