Ardscoil Rís claim Bowen shield final win over Cork rivals

Ardscoil Rís after winning the Bowen shield final against Bandon Grammar

ARDSCOIL RÍS claimed the U18 Bowen shield after a competitive win against Bandon Grammar in the final at Musgrave Park.

Ardscoil were crowned champions after James Butler slotted over the winning penalty to leave them 18-15 ahead of the Cork school.

Bandon started the brighter of the two teams scoring a try early on, but missing the conversion to put them 5-0 in front. This pressure from the Cork team continued throughout the first-half, scoring another try with a missed conversion.

Ardscoil Rís's only score of the half came from a Butler penalty leaving the half-time score at 10-3 in Bandon's favor.

The Limerick team came out after half-time with serious purpose with flanker Sean Horrigan going over the line for their first try of the game and Butler converting. This score was quickly followed by an Ollie Desmond penalty as the game swung in Ardscoil's favor.

Ill discipline from Bandon Grammar resulted in three of their players receiving yellow cards within a 15-minute period. The hard work paid off for Ardscoil, as Jibril Koura went over for another try late on.

Bandon replied immediately with a spectacular try to take the game to 18-15. However, time ran out for them and the score remained the same after Ardscoil showed great determination to put Bandon into touch.
