Munster Rugby head coach Graham Rowntree and Keith Earls embrace following their URC semi-final win over Leinster at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday
MUNSTER Rugby captain Peter O'Mahony admitted that Saturday night's dramatic United Rugby Championship semi-final victory over great rivals Leinster at the Aviva Stadium was an important win for the province.
Munster ended a five game losing run in semi-finals in all competitions when edging past their great rivals 16-15, thanks to a late drop goal from the boot of Jack Crowley.
The thrilling victory set up a Saturday, May 27 URC final meeting with holders the Stormers at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town, kick-off 5.30pm Irish time.
Munster secured a precious 26-24 regular season victory over the Stormers in Cape Town last month.
Graham Rowntree's charges will be looking to extend their impressive unbeaten run away from home this season as the province has not tasted defeat on the road since last October.
Munster captain Peter O'Mahony said it had taken a 'big performance' from the side to lay the Leinster bogey.
"Ya it was an important one for us. You know we don't have a good record up here, not in the last few years anyway. Look, it took a big performance from us. It was a bit scrappy in the second half, struggled a bit at times discipline wise, but we hung in there and gave ourselves a chance," O'Mahony said.
"We were lucky, I think Frawls (Ciaran Frawley) missed a conversion, so it left us within three points and Jack (Crowley) had the balls to knock it over, so here we go.
"We want another one, we want one more game. This was a big stepping stone for us, so we have a trip to South Africa now.
"Back down we go again. It is great to have another week to review and another shot at it.
"We caught them (the Stormers) over there a few weeks ago. They will be hurting after that because they had a very good record before that, but it is a final and who knows."
