Retired garda charged with indecently assaulting female at a property in County Limerick

Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment before the circuit court
A RETIRED member of An Garda Siochana has appeared in court after he was charged with multiple counts of indecent assault.
The man, aged in his 60s, faces a total of 15 charges under the provisions of section 10 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Act relating to offences which are alleged to have happened at an address in County Limerick on dates between April 1, 1982 and August 31, 1988.
During a procedural hearing, Judge Patricia Harney was told the defendant replied “not guilty” to each of the charges adding: “It never happened, she and I know it, she is lying through her teeth.”
Inspector Gearoid Thompson said the Director of Public Prosecutions has been consulted in relation to the case and that the matter is to proceed on indictment before the circuit court.
He confirmed there was no garda objection to bail subject to the defendant complying with two specific conditions, details of which were submitted to the court.
Solicitor Turlough Herbert confirmed his client was aware of the conditions and that they were ‘agreed’.
The matter was adjourned to a date in October to facilitate the preparation of a Book of Evidence.
Judge Harney imposed strict reporting restrictions.
