John De Courcy, who has sadly passed away, has been described as a 'leader' and a 'legend' in the auctioneering business
THERE is shock and sadness in Limerick's auctioneering circles following the sad and untimely passing of John de Courcy.
The Parteen man ran his business at Glentworth Street in the city centre, and was very much respected in the local business community.
He passed away this Monday, January 26, at Cork University Hospital and will be reposing this Thursday night at St Nicholas Church in Westbury from 5.30pm to 7pm.

His funeral Mass will take place the following day, Friday, January 30 at noon.
Tom Crosse, of GVM Auctioneers, a colleague and neighbour of John's for many years, described him as "a leader in the business and a legend in the business".
"He led by example, and was a man of great honesty, integrity and ethics," said Mr Crosse.
"The auctioneering profession and the name of de Courcy will always be synonymous. They had a mart back in the day in Mulgrave Street and would have had a big connection with the farming community over the years," he continued.
On a personal level, Mr Crosse remembered Mr de Courcy as: "very affable, very friendly and very chatty", with "a great passion for the business".
"He will be sadly missed by all."
Gordon Kearney, the managing director of Rooney Auctioneers described John as: "approachable and fair".
"John earned respect across the industry and beyond, not just for his knowledge, but for the way he treated people.
John’s absence will be felt by colleagues and clients," he added.
Patrick Seymour, of Power Property in O'Connell Street, added: "John was a great character, and always had time for a chat. A friendly, and well respected colleague."
John de Courcy was the beloved husband of Dolores (Sheehy), stepson Alan and his wife Laura.
He is also the dearly loved son of the late Cyril and Jo, and brother to Richard, Mary, Jean Anne and Maurice.
He is also sadly missed by his aunt Phyl, cousin and close friend Peter, mother-in-law Lizann, goddaughter Emily and her sister Hazel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, a wide circle of friends, work colleagues, past and present and his companion Coco.
May he rest in peace.
