Golf’s Ryder Cup will take place in Adare in 2027

CLARITY has been sought as to how improvements will be made to local amenities in areas surrounding Adare ahead of the Ryder Cup in 2027.
Fine Gael councillor Adam Teskey submitted a written question ahead of the March meeting of the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District.
He asked what additional funding would be made available to towns within the district to improve amenities, facilities, and capital infrastructure in preparation for hosting the Ryder Cup, which takes place in September of next year.

In a written response, Director of Service for the district, Vincent Murray, noted the Ryder Cup is a “national and international event led by the Government” and that Limerick City and County Council has a limited role in the event and is responsible for things such as the provision of park and ride facilities.
“As we are all aware, there is no additional national funding beyond what has already been announced. Budgetary provision by LCCC for 2027 will require discussion with the Mayor and Councillors, as previously outlined at Municipal District briefings,” stated the reply.
Mr Murray added that engagement is ongoing with the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport regarding funding and that discussions are also underway with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Transport Authority regarding road improvements around Adare.
Mr Murray also noted that projects such as the Adare bypass will benefit the region and that the Ryder Cup will deliver economic benefits at national, regional, county and at Municipal District level, including in the hospitality sector.
