LIMERICK City and County Council welcomes new councillor, Pádraigh Reale, who has been formally co-opted to the Council following the election of Labour TD Conor Sheehan to Dáil Éireann.

Cllr Reale takes the seat previously occupied by Conor Sheehan in Limerick City North.

His partner Niamh Cahill, his mum Margaret Reale and other family and friends joined the 33-year-old, as he took his seat in the Council Chamber at Dooradoyle for the first time during a special full meeting of the Council.

Pádraigh, who lives in Garryowen, is Chairman of Geraldines FC and works at Limerick Sports Partnership as an Officer for Social Innovation in Sport.

He said: “I am deeply honoured to take on this role and to represent the people of Limerick City North. I am committed to continuing the excellent work of my predecessor, Conor Sheehan, and to working tirelessly to address the needs and concerns of our community.

“Together, we can make Limerick an even better place to live, work, and play.”

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran welcomed the new councillor by congratulating him and advised him to “get some rest over the Christmas period”.

“I want to congratulate Pádraigh and wish Conor the best on his new journey.

“We’ve all seen that Pádraigh is already very active in the community through his work with Limerick Sports Partnership and Geraldines FC, and I look forward to working further with him.

“I’ll just advise him to get some rest over the Christmas period as there is already a packed agenda for 2025 and knowing Pádraigh, I am sure he has even more to add.”

Príomh Comhairleoir, Cllr Dan McSweeney also said: “Let me start by congratulating our former Council colleague Conor Sheehan on his successful election to Dáil Éireann.

“I know he will continue to represent Limerick at a national level with enthusiasm and professionalism.

“Pádraigh, you are very welcome to the Chamber and I am sure with your background in sport management and community action, you will hit the ground running and be a welcome addition to the Chamber.”

Director general of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly said they are “delighted” to have Pádraigh join the Council.

“His extensive experience in community engagement and sports management will be invaluable as we continue to develop and implement initiatives that benefit all residents of Limerick,” Dr Daly said.
