First look at Mayor John Moran's urban beach in Limerick city revealed

Attraction to remain open on Steamboat Quay for the month of August
THE FINAL preparations are being made for a new urban beach in Limerick city centre, which will remain open for the month of August.
Steamboat Quay has been transformed, with sand being ported in, and outdoor seating erected to provide an area for locals and tourists to the city to relax.
Deckchairs have been erected in the area.
It’s the second time an urban beach has come to Limerick under Mayor John Moran’s watch, with the first, in 2024, being set up beside the Daniel O’Connell Monument at The Crescent.
Now, it’s moved down to the riverside, and unlike the proposed street closures in Limerick city centre, has been largely welcomed.
The urban beach will be in place for the entire month, from this Saturday, August 1.
A sauna will be available on Saturday and Sunday at Steamboat Quay.
A number of other events are taking place at the riverside site in the month of August.
On Saturday, August 8, from 1pm, the All-Ireland skateboarding championships will come ‘home’ to where it all first started - in the Mount Kennett Place skate park.

The following Sunday, August 16, will see an open air exhibition showcasing the work of analogue photographers from across Limerick on the quay.

And on Friday night, August 28, from 6pm, a DJ showcase will take place.
Here, audiences can enjoy performances from Irish, Latino, Brazilian, Afro and Techno DJs, with each artist delivering a 45-minute set featuring the very best of their sound.
