PICTURES: Music, fun and dance marked the 825th Anniversary of Askeaton Castle

Desmond Castle in Askeaton opened it's gates to the public mark the 825th anniversary and was marked by fun, music and plenty of dress up!

Askeaton Civic Trust organised a weekend of events, including a flag parade up to the castle which saw bands and crowds gathering to dance and enjoy the day.

Askeaton Castle dates from 1199, when William de Burgo built it on a rock in the River Deel. It was the power base of the earls of Desmond after 1348.
