DANCE LIMERICK have premiered a new show Riverine by Maria Nilsson Waller.
Maria has been working with this year's five amazing Step Up participants on the creation of this new dance piece inspired by the river Shannon and its vital importance for Limerick city.
Riverine explores the concept and realities of rivers. Drawing on the vital importance of the river Shannon for the city of Limerick, Maria casts a wider net that examines the idea of flow, of embodying a place and collaborating with nature.
The structure of the piece follows the journey of streams joining together, forming themselves into the River Shannon.
In a flow of constantly falling, rolling and circling it hits Limerick under the moonlight, taking inspiration from everyday life and mythology. Eventually it dissolves into the ocean, only to return to land again with the wind and new dawn.
